Phase V of the PPH Project

After joining the Global Patent Prosecution Highway (GPPH) on July 6, 2024, the Brazilian PTO now announced that on January 1, 2025, Phase V of the PPH Project will be launched.
The new phase of the PPH Project, established by Ordinance/INPI/PR No. 48 of November 29, 2024 and Ordinance/INPI/DIRPA No. 26 of December 23, 2024, will contemplate a total of 3,200 applications. PPH slots will be evenly divided into quarterly periods, i.e., 800 applications per quarter.
Further, the Brazilian PTO will only accept a total of 1,000 requests of the same section of the International Patent Classification (IPC).
During the first quarter, the PTO will not accept requests for expedited examination of applications included in class H04 of the IPC (electric communication technique), due to the backlog of requests in such class.
Finally, in order to confirm participation in the PPH Project, the Brazilian PTO will accept results of the technical examination of applications in any of the countries members of the GPPH.
